Brazil’s Most Beautiful Elderly Woman

May is known as “family month” in Korea because there are many dates that remind us of what it really means to be a family. It seems to be no different in other countries around the world. In Brazil, Mother’s Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of May every year. On May 14, a unique competition was held to celebrate this meaningful day in Sao Paulo, Brazil!

It was a beauty contest to choose the most beautiful elderly woman in the country! About 200 women over the age of 60 participated in the competition. A total of 25 grandmothers went through to the final round. As a result, the 65-year-old Irenilda de Oliveira Meneses, nicknamed “Barbie” by her friends, was crowned winner!

According to the judges, they judged contestants on their smile, character, and elegance. The oldest beauty queen in the competition, 87-year-old Maria Helena Fernandes, said the pageant had made her feel like a 20-year-old girl. Irenilda said in an interview, “We came out here to dance, to have fun, to parade around, and we succeeded; it’s really emotional, very emotional.” Congratulations, beauty queen!
